'Marcus' a sweet role for its main actor
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "'Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet,' now in previews for a Friday opening, is the third and final play of McCraney's trilogy 'The Brother/Sister Plays' and serves as a companion piece for 'The Brothers Size' that the South Side theater company produced in 2008.

great to see an alum doing well, and making great theatre here in town. A bunch of us went to see the play sunday, and I was very impressed. The acting was really slick-I for one really enjoyed the "outward subtext" effect of speaking stage directions or emotions, I felt it helped us into the story, which at times could be confusing or harder to access. Also, the stage directions had emotion and character to them. The girls would say things like "[name] exits", but also "[name] steps to her boy marcus" and thus convey attitude with it. Overall, a really nice production, well-acted, well-executed.
I truly enjoyed the show as well. The acting was superb, and the speaking of stage directions was effective. I'm not sure if I liked the design of the set; however, the sound effects and lighting was beautifully done. The story was well crafted. Many of the characters were uniquely individual and it was very accessible in my opinion. The ending, however, felt somewhat lacking. But the show overall was engrossing. On another note, I found it somewhat odd that the critic quoted Ben Brantley. Unless one is comparing the show with some original production that occurred few decades ago, it just seems like the critic is using another more-established critic's review as the basic guidelines for his/her review.
