On stage, taking risks

The Boston Globe: "“I’ve had more than enough people say that they’ve gone to ‘Spider-Man’ for the ghoulish reason of thinking that they would be present when an accident happens,’’ said fight director Rick Sordelet, whose scores of Broadway credits include “The Lion King’’ and who also works as a stunt coordinator in television and film.

This is a prime example of why theatre and performance is amazing, yet completely dangerous. Even in the case of this professional, there were still great risks involved. That is what I think that people dont get about somehting as dangerous as this. That even stunts like they were saying happen every night done by professionals are even subject to fail. So you need to be prepared with backup plans. Because even when they get it right for 50 times prior there is still always that chance that something can go wrong. The person in this article that said 'if its machanical it will fail' has a great way of looking at things, because they are always ready for the inevitable. And if theyre lucky and nothing ever happens then they were just well prepared, and thats what places that have problems need to learn

Although it's beyond frustrating to admit, this article is right when it says that people love danger and enjoy watching it because they cannot experience it in real life without fatality. But at what point do we take a leap beyond artistic appeal to life threatening theatricality? I believe in simplicity and hate to see theatre directing its material to the danger hungry crowds of ignorant leeches who suck the art out of theatre.
