It's Good to see Joseph chaiken being recognized posthumously. I am most familiar with his work alongside playwright Sam Shepard. I know he did a great deal in the directing and writing field. in so many ways i feel like during his life he was overlooked as a major creator in American theatre. it's also good to see Brian Dennehy getting honored as he is one of the most talented American actors working today.
First off, I think the title of this ceremony should be revised to the Broadway Hall of Fame. The purpose of this is otherwise misleading. I personally feel that shows on Broadway tend to lean more towards commercializing a show than celebrating the art of drama. Since commercialized shows are so popular however, the public is blind to the truly inspiring and innovative theatre art that occurs all over the world, not just Broadway. For example a group such as Quantum Theatre, who are pushing the scope of what drama can do. With that being said, if this ceremony were to keep its title, it should revise its requirements, as to be inclusive to the hidden gems all around us.
