PRODUCER’S PERSPECTIVE: "My office is right next to the Eugene O'Neill theater, home to the recently departed Fela!, home to the soon-to-arrive Book of Mormon, and the permanent home of Chris Beck, the Property Master or 'Head of Props'.
Props men and women have to do it all. Whenever there is ever a question about what department should handle a tricky technical situation, it's always seems to end up on the Prop guy's desk.

This article surprised me in a few ways: firstly, I wouldn't have thought that a commerical theatre would have a props master associated with the venue rather than the show, like in a regional model, but Mr. Beck says that he's staying on for the next show; I wonder if any of the other non-house staff people there on a daily basis will stay for the next show. I also realize that Mr. Beck's answers were subjective, but finding 'the new idea' is his biggest challenge, and I would have guessed the goal to be meeting the needs of the show (which isn't necessarily inconsistent). Finally, is he realistically suggesting a theatre playing during the day? While it might be convenient for cast & run crew, it doesn't seem commercially viable.
