It is really encouraging that the US cities are still paying attention to the arts as the economy is struggling. As the article says, the arts can be a really big economic influence on the area where they are located. It is important to realize the power of art, not only intellectually, but also socially and politically and economically.
For a country in such economic turmoil, it is even more important to support the arts for the people and society to focus on when they are not simply trying to survive.
