CMU students ready to take musical theater to Port Authority bus stops

Post Gazette: "So on Friday night, commuters and travellers were a little startled when a troupe of inconspicuously dressed Carnegie Mellon University students spontaneously broke into song at public transit stations with the accompaniment of a three-piece band, performing as people commonly seen on the bus -- the bizarre cat lady, the self-involved hot girl."

This is great! I know exactly how mundane waiting around in the cold for a bus can be, and this brings theatre even to those who never get a chance to experience it.

Its so crazy to do a show (even if it is very short) in a bus station. It must be so great and interesting to work on from a tech point of view. I am so glad it works, it shows how versatile a "stage" can be.

This is a really cool idea. Theater is known to be unpredictable and spontaneous. Audiences can make or break a show and the settings are important for both the actors and the audience. This is taking the unpredictability of theater to its furthest. It is an interesting study of audience/performer interactions and an excellent way of bringing theater to those who are otherwise unable to experience it.

This form of theater also gives the actors an excellent opportunity to study characters and their interactions with the world around them.

This would be awesome. Expanding the idea and stretching the idea of what we consider theatre is always a positive. It also makes you really go back to the basics: what is a theatre space? This is a really good opportunity for anyone involved.

This is an amazing idea. It must freak some people out at the bus stop, but it probably makes the wait better for a majority of the people there. It also has to be great for the actors working in a different environment that we don't necessarily call a theatre. I guess it just goes to prove you can do theatre anywhere.

I wish I could have seen this live! Waiting for the bus is one of the most annoying things I have to do on a regular basis, and I love that people are trying to make it more interesting.

This is such a cool idea. I especially like that the plot lines are based on real people they observed or stereotypes they see on the bus. I want to see the production sometime but I doubt I'll have time. Bummer. Maybe if they performed this as a playground piece...

This sounds like so much fun! I totally understand that the buses can get a little dull, and this will definitely break up the monotony. I hope that I get to see or experience this, we're definitely creating new and amazing pieces here, this is going to really show the city our creativity! Good luck to all who are part of this project!
