What does a Hollywood producer do, exactly?
Slate Magazine: "You probably won't recognize the men or women who pick up the award for best picture at this Sunday's 81st annual Academy Awards. The trophy doesn't go to the winning film's director or to its on-screen stars. Rather, it's handed to the 'producers.' What does a producer do, exactly?"

Wow, I can't believe they withheld some nominations from the credited producers of Crash. I suppose it is admirable that the Academy cares enough about the award recipients to do investigations and discover who actually deserves the award, but if someone is credited in the film, I would assume they did they job they were credited for.
It was interesting to find out what that "Associate producer" has a very different than what we would normally credit it with. While the article describes it as an "inexpensive way to pay back a favor", it is good to note that even in an industry fiercely driven by money, sometimes the best way to pay someone is by simply recognizing what they have done.
Its amazing how driving to the whole show a producer is. I never knew how much was initiated by them. They deserve to go up and accept the award.
It is really interesting to learn (kind of) what a producer does. To me, they have always seemed like the person who comes down from on high and says NO. This article gives a much better insight into the job. I didn't know how involved the producer was in the entire process. It is also interesting how much politics go into the assigning of titles. I found that, when making programs for my high school, there is a lot of back and forth about if someone actually should get the title, or if someone else did their work for them.
