RENT never stops causing controversy, it seems. Frankly, I can't believe they even came out with a school version of the show. I hope the school is able to perform the show with all their resources in tact. It's about time people have gotten over the content in the show and moved on with their lives.

While I love Rent, I don't really think its a High School appropriate show. It seems weird to me that they even made a school version, because so much of that show should not be portrayed by HSers. For me, it has nothing to do with the gay thing, but really the AIDS and sex etc. I think its a mature play, and hard for HS.

I'm not sure if performing a version of "Rent" geared toward high school's would help get its point across. I wonder what else was changed besides removing expletives and "Contact" from the show. I honestly wouldn't expect the high school I came from to ever allow this show to be performed, so I'm not surprised that so many principals aren't letting theirs.

This is not an appropriate show to do in a high school setting. We did Cabaret at my high school without any cuts and it was incredibly awkward for the audience, most of whom were parents of the cast. I would not want to see my 16 year old son portray a junkie. I think there are many other options that would be more appropriate.
