That's so sad to hear about. Hopefully the school figures out a better way to use a fake gun in their production.
Many sympathies to the school and his family.
he was found in the sound booth.
the proper methods of gun safety were not followed. the gun was stored either neither the ammunition or was accessible to the student. in addition, the gun should not be available to the student until right before the shot anyways.
I am guessing it was a suicide.
Very interesting situation. I agree that there was clearly some lapses in the control and safety of the gun and amunition. I haven't ever personally used a blank-firing pistol, but either the blanks were used at such a short range that just the force behind the shot is what did the damage, or I guess we assume that he replaced the ammunition with some of his own. Very sad incident though that is really going to make the use of firearms difficult now for the school and the area schools.
I don't think is was a suicide.. It just sounds like a kid playing around with a toy.
I wonder if one specific parent was assigned to making sure the gun was locked up, or if it was a different adult everyday.
The Board of Ed made the right decision by entrusting this to an adult, often the stage manager is just another student. Whoever was supposed to make sure this gun was under lock and key should be held liable for this terrible incident.
