Starbucks Conference Serves as AV Showcase

PLSN: "Starbucks may have announced plans earlier this year to close about 600 of its locations, or about 5 percent of all U.S. stores, between July 2008 and March 2009, but the company went full steam ahead with a reported $3 million investment in its recent Leadership Conference, which drew more than 10,000 of its management team members to New Orleans to experience a show staged by Seattle-based production company Touch and AV Concepts, Tempe, Ariz."

it is good to see that there will be work for many people in the staging of this convention in new orleans. however, since when does a coffee shop chain need a convention? They sell coffee. How is a technologically advanced spectacle gonna sell more frappucinnos?

It's kinda funny, I'm writing this in a Starbucks. The company has long been known for helping the world out. From cups made from 10% post consumers products, to only selling water that supports water conservation and third world countries. The conference raised allot of money for these causes. I can tell you also that the conferences my dad goes to for call manufacturers act as training, social networking, product introductions, and state of the industry addresses.
