Obama Tapped Hal Prince, Michael Chabon to Craft Culture Plank
Bloomberg.com: Arts and Culture: "Senator Barack Obama writes poetry, gets props from Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z, and is the first White House contender to include a far-reaching arts plank in his platform."

And this is just one more reason why we need to elect Obama on Tuesday. McCain would rather give the money to big business like oil. While that will benefit the general public as well, they have enough money. The arts which will benefit people and enrich society needs more help. This is the biggest step I have seen a politician make towards supporting the arts. I am further impressed with the variety of artist he pulled into his committee. DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!!!
Everyone knows that the arts are critical etc etc.. What I found interesting to me was that McCain wants to put it in the states hands to deal with. Which makes me wonder is, if that stance would cause the "well" of funding for the arts in general to dry up in some states. Shameless political plug: Go Obama. Save us from the geezer and dingbat brigade.
As a patron, partaker and supporter of the arts, I see this as yet another example of why we need Barack Obama as President of the United States. His insight and intellectualism will be able to support our next generation of artists.
It's revealing that McCain wants to make arts funding a local issue. This sounds good on paper, but most municipalities and states do not have the funding to provide significant support to the arts. They can't even provide quality education a lot of places! Nowhere can you get a significant amount of funding for the arts but the federal government, and it's great the Obama realizes this. The countries with the best-supported arts all put significant federal funds into the arts. It's time the U.S. joined this group.
I find it interesting that Obama has even found it necessary to try to get the attention of the arts community. From experience, I have found that most of the members of the arts community (and this is a generalization here) tend to be liberal. It is a community that I think he already had the support of, so this is an interesting platform for him to take. This makes me feel that he really meant what he claimed. Hopefully, if he gets elected, we do see this type of change start to occur, because Obama does seem to care.
