Long tour a learning experience for 'So You Can' dancers

Post Gazette: "One after the other, the young dancers spoke of the off-camera occurrences that television audiences don't see -- injuries that came along with those scintillating new moves, rehearsing in a gym at midnight, practicing in tiny rehearsal spaces to perfect the dances up until the last minute. But they did learn about time management did learn to manage the judges' critiques. Hightower noted that she most enjoyed Lil' C, 'who was very insightful. He would give us a way to better ourselves.'"

It's funny, I always thought of So You Think You Can Dance as just another silly reality show/competition, but I never thought of what it means to the contestants. It turns out this is a truly formative experience for these dancers, in their lives and in their careers. They get a chance to see what a career in dance is like, and they get professional input along the way. Maybe this isn't just another reality show.
