'Happy-Go-Lucky' is director's ode to optimism

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Director Mike Leigh is tickled that critics have hailed 'Happy-Go-Lucky,' an invigorating tribute to a beautiful dreamer who happens to teach school, as though it were a change of pace."

I'm glad to see people producing optimistic theatre that isn't some big budget money sucker like Shrek. Too often the new works being publicized are either dark and edgy or blockbusters produced by Disney. There is no middle ground.

This movie looks very interesting. I'm surprised that the article says that Leigh was "tickled" by the reviews. It got very good reviews just like all of his past films. I'm sure Sally Hawkins will also pick up a best actress nomination. It's an interesting point Laura brings up. I read while back that once Obama wins the elction films and all forms of entertainment will become much more positive now that everyone's minds will be at rest with all of the current issues such as the war and the economic problems. Even though this film was written and made way before Obama won it could possibly lead is into a much more positive feeling portrayed in entertainment within our country.
