Ben Hur stage spectacle promises all the excitement of film epic ... in half the time
Times Online: "Visitors to the building formerly known as the Millennium Dome know a preposterously expensive, unnecessary folly when they see one. But who is to say that in these straitened times what the world really needs is not a £5 million stage version of Ben Hur, complete with live chariot race, massed gladiatorial combat, sea battle, heaving bazaar, crucifixion and, for good measure, an orgy."

This might be the most awesome thing I've ever seen. A ticket to Medieval Times is like $60 and it doesn't even include an orgy or a crucifixion.
Best deal ever. Let's compare:
Medieval Times has:
lame kids on field trips, more lame kids with parents, crappy light up roses, 2 sad looking knights, wenches with chicken
Ben Hur:
400 people, 100 animals, probably awesome light up roses, wenches with chicken
Deal.
Awesomely epic for no reason except for being awesome. In the film version they got so caught up in the scale of things that during the filming of the chariot race one of them crashed resulting in a death. They ended up using the footage because they caught it in the one shot. This sounds absolutely ridiculous, but very cool to see.
i think this is stupid. why spend so much money to work so hard to recreate something that you could rent for four dollars and watch in your living room. if you are going to spend so much time and money, at least work on something instead of just copying something.
This sounds amazing. I saw the film as a kid and was pretty bored during the musical intermission. Shortening the show is a great idea that will keep everyones' attention. I loved the movie and the show sounds just as amazing, not to mention the amazing tech.
