It's good that there's more dedicated HD gear on the market for live performance. I've seen the iMac in a roadcase hiccup far too many times during a show for me to truly trust it.
I was going to comment about needing other gear to support it (ie. video switchers), but this seems to be more of a cue-stack type of device rather than a live, on-the-fly product.
That said, I wonder when the market will see live-render devices that offer HD quality
The hippotizer does do stack cueing, but it can do live rendering on the fly as well. The lag time is almost not noticeable. I forget if the live rendering is HD quality, but it very high res. I would tell you more but I'm not Loren...
I don't know all that much about the Hippotomizer other than what i've seen at one or two trade shows but it would be interesting to see how it is being applied in a production like "All My Sons".
There are many different brands of media servers to chose from today. The newer hd servers are becoming popular in many applications. I have had experience with the Grass Valley turbo iDDR and have loved using it. The iDDR has playback and recording capabilities. I am sure it has similar functions as the iDDR. I am really interested in having the opportunity to use different media servers and explore there uses in the years to come.
