I think it is very befitting that Disney Pixar receive the first Randy Pausch award. They have really brought the worlds of CS and Arts together. Adding on to this honor is the fact that CMU has recently installed a BCSA program, which will make more and more people like Ed Catmull, people who bring together technology and the arts in a common way.
I agree with arosenbu that Ed Catmull should get that award since he is the definition of someone to combine art and computer science. I think it's great that CMU is able to benefit from ETC's award which brings theses award winners to campus. It's also really great that they were able to create an award for someone like Randy Pausch as his name continues to come up everywhere.
The creation of this award is fantastic; fusion of computer science and fine arts should definitely be honored and encouraged. Randy Pausch's efforts were unique and successful, and I think it's wonderful that his followers will continue to be recognized. Ed Catmull is for sure an appropriate recipient, for his interdisciplinary efforts mirror Pausch's very closely.
This is just another event in a long list that really makes it cool to be attending CMU. Having been a part of the whole Randy Pausch lecture and this award is such a great honor. It's pretty crazy when you think about the fact that people all over the nation are reading the last lecture and the impact that Randy has had on so many of us.
