This is such a good idea and it mimics what happens on Broadway. Giving decent seats to those who come 2 1/2 hours early and for only $25 is a great way to get people less fortunate a chance to see a Broadway show and to bring music into there life. Yeah Pittsburgh for having Wicked back and for the great way of selling seats!
The Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles also had a ticket lottery for its "Wicked" run. I went with my mother and sister this July and participated in the lottery. We did not win, but were given a $40 ticket offer for each of us. The seats were wonderful and i would certainly do it again. I think it is a great way to fill up those last empty seats every performance. I also think that a cheaper ticket-a little over twice the amount of a movie ticket-will attract people who cannot pay the full price of a ticket. I agree with Katherine on this one, this is a great way to bring theatre to a wider audience and to ensure its longevity. Hooray Pittsburgh!
I'm glad to see Pittsburgh is getting with the program and finally doing a lottery. Many students can't afford to see shows at full price and a lottery is the only way. Of course this means the students would have to have enough time off class and crew to go 2.5 hours before curtain, but hey! it could happen. The first time I saw Wicked was with a lottery ticket in SF, but I had free time back then.
