It was hard to get a ton out of this relatively short article, but I think that it is a great idea. We see playwrights constantly changing to respond to society, and the world...so, naturally, we would begin to see works where the environment is a theme, or where it may even take precedence in a piece.
It's great to raise awareness of environmental issues through theatre, but I would like to see some discussion of how we can make the actual practice of theatre more sustainable. A good amount of natural resources, as well as some environmentally unsafe products, go into the building of a show, and often they are discarded when the show is over. It would be great if we could use more recycled materials in our shows, recycle whatever we can when we're done, and come up with solutions for using less power. So, while I think it's great that playwrights are addressing environmental issues in their work, I think we could also look at some environmental issues on our side of it.
