I was lucky enough to get to see this production at the Fringe Festival. It was amazing. But what I found most amazing was the ability to tell the story having many familiar technical elements stripped away. Let me explain. I live in Chicago, and was on a tour of the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre (where Funk It Up was originally performed) and was able to explore the wild and very three dimensional and detailed set for the show. However, when I saw it about two weeks later at the Fringe, the entire set was reduced to a single drop. So, just as in Shakespeare’s time and language, the language of these new ad-rap-tations, are most definitely able to carry the weight of the show without the aid of technical and physical support. The show was amazing!!!
