Carnegie Mellon Team Hosts "Open House" for Solar House

Carnegie Mellon University: "Richard King, head of the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition, will join Carnegie Mellon Architecture Professor Stephen Lee, local and state legislators, including Pittsburgh City Councilman Bill Peduto, and several sponsors for a tour of Carnegie Mellon's Solar House at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20 at Construction Junction, 412 N. Lexington Ave. in Point Breeze. Carnegie Mellon's Solar House will be one of 20 entries in the Solar Decathlon, which will be held Oct. 12 - 20 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Each entry will be judged in 10 categories to determine an overall winner. Carnegie Mellon's Solar House was designed and built by Lee and students from the schools of architecture, art, design and drama, as well the College of Engineering and Tepper School of Business. The energy-efficient, solar-powered house consists of a central structure, a detachable kitchen, bedroom and living room, and a deck."

I am really interested to see the outcome of this project. When I first heard about it, I thought it was such a great idea, and I’m so glad it is such a University-wide piece. I have been talking about the progress of the project with Dale, and I wonder how all of the ideas from the drama school have turned out. It sounded while talking with him, that some really great things have resulted and I look forward to hearing how it is received at the showing.
