The Globe and Mail: "The Windy City is having another season to make other theatre cities envious. By the time the Tony Awards roll around in June, a record number of Chicago productions and plays will have gusted over to New York."
I may be crazy, but there seems to be growing similarities between the Pittsburgh theatrical community and that in Chicago. They are definitely not complete parallels, but the Pittsburgh cultural trust has started to do what the city government in Chicago did several years ago. It is just an interesting observation. What is even more important is the lesson for those in city government. Several times in various cities across the country, city governments have shown that the arts more than pay back the money that is put into them by the community. Often, arts organizations are right behind "human service groups" like food banks and thrift stores to help get a neighborhood back on track. It is a example that most should pay more attention to.
