As much as I hate to say it, something about Neil Gaiman always personally radiated a bit of a sinister vibe to me. This is overall such an awful situation that impacts so many more people than it may seem. Now not only will the actors and producers lose their jobs on this musical, but all the tech, crew, and designers will be impacted. It's truly such a big freaking bummer, I cant believe that an adapted comic series from one of Neil Gaiman's works is also now going to be cancelled after having five issues out of the eight completed. Its also just a little bit crazy to me that it has taken so long for these allegations to take light. The first few women were widely unheard and I never even heard about these allegations. But that may be because I'm not tapped in like that. However, it's just so disheartening to see that more and more woman have come out to speak about what neil gaiman did to them.
As someone who was traumatized by this movie as a child I cannot say that I am sad to see it called off. While I do not remember much about the story other than an unhappy child who wishes for things to be different to only end up with parents with buttons for eyes and a mom who turns into a spider and honestly I think the rest is blocked from my memory. I am sorry to hear why it was canceled, it makes sense that the producers would not want to go through with it but it must be disappointing for those who were excited about it. However, I hope that out of the cancellation a new show can be found. A story not yet told, that deserves an audience but is not likely to be produced because the industry is too interested in revivals, adaptations of other stories and jukebox musicals which are considered safe bets.
Coraline is my all time favorite movie/sotye. When I was younger I would watch it all the time with my sister. Of course I was scared at first but over time I fell in love with the artistry in the movie. The stop motion was incredible and the story was intriguing and dark. I eventually read the book and continued to love the world created by Neil Gaiman. This article was interesting to read considering the context of the recent years. It’s incredible how quickly your life can change direction based on consequences that might not even be your fault. Either way, it’s important to listen to the stories of people who come forward with allegations of sexual assault and treat them with the utmost concern and respect. Overall, I hope that Neil Gaiman has done nothing to stain the work that he has done and the worlds he built that I have loved for so long. However, we cannot brush someone aside for speaking up and must hold all people, including celebrities and authors, accountable.
