I worked with Vectorworks in higschool for a full academic year in the classes CAD and Stagecraft my senior year after taking a full year of Architecture my junior year. I would say I am familiar with the program, but not a master at it. I found it to be significantly less intuitive than Autocad, which I have used for less than 30 minutes, but I am not sure what capabilities Vectorworks may have that Autocad does not. For whatever reason, my high school director used this program for his professional light plots and scenic designs. This update seems to be incredibly useful for designing vehicles which I find interesting. They have to cater to such a wide and varied audience. I think theater artists will find it useful that they have added a featuring allowing you to easily render elevations and sections in all styles. The speed increase is a bonus. I have known this program to have severely long wait time for renderings. I can't wait to hear what the new CAD students and my director at home have to say about it!

This is nothing but good news for users of VectorWorks. This update helps to fix the major flaws that are apparent in VectorWorks. The first of which is lack of versatility. While Vectorworks is definitely better for theatrical and specifically lighting purposes, it lacks depth for non-theatrical purposes (architecture & engineering). In the past, VectorWorks has also lacked in ability to cooperate with its sister-program AutoCAD. However, in VectorWorks 2019, there is additional compatibility with AutoCAD, at least compared to previous versions. There are also additional features which improve 3D modeling functionality. There is also increased workflow speed and functionality overall. Personally, I think that for theatrical purposes, Vectorworks in generally more efficient than AutoCAD, yet for abnormal purposes and draftings, AutoCAD is overall better. I personally prefer VectorWorks, because I do not need the extra features offered by AutoCAD, and I find that VectorWorks is much quicker to use, especially for what I’ve used it for in the past (lighting).
