I normally gravitate to articles about women in the workplace. Other than the fact that I am a women who aspires to be in the industry, I like to be updated on the evolution of sexism within the workplace. Reading this article was very inspirational in many ways. Robinson is only 24 years old and already making history in her workplace. She is the only women writer in the room when creating for the very successful and award winning show, Atlanta. Though I had never worries about being a potential women in the industry until a couple of years ago, reading articles such as these have been encouraging. Robinson stated that she loved the people she worked with and specifically said the men of the writing team were, “really, really, just smart people and very empathetic people”. She also went on to express slight restraints when voicing some ideas. She said that due to the fact that she is “out-numbered” in the writer’s room, there have been times where she had to micro-manage her thoughts. Although she couldn’t recall a specific point in which she had to hold back from pitching an idea, it’s disheartening to read that she feels as though sometimes her voice might not be valid.
