Communication and collaboration are skills that I have heard perhaps every boss and educator push on us during class or training, and for me the definition and uses were never very interesting or important. It is without a doubt that collaboration is very important, but after hearing lectures about its importance you sort of tune its uses out. That's why in this article I found it interesting that according to Norm Goldberg, collaboration is "a key tool in your agility toolkit." I never really thought about it in that context. For me, collaboration has always been, "work as a team because two heads are better than one," as a way of saying that more ideas come out of more people. That can be true, and would apply to the agility factor, but now I'm beginning to think that the way I've been using collaboration all along is as a way to become more creative to address problems in different ways. This would be helpful from a business standpoint, but even just from a personal day-to-day perspective, having the ability to collaborate means that as an individual you can solve problems more efficiently and creatively, become more resilient, and spend less time being stuck by yourself using the same method.
