My first initial thought is how is this taking so long. As mentioned, the harassment began well over a year ago, about to be two. Valdez clearly has the evidence of sexual harassment via text messages, so why is the process taking so long? Even if she were to win her case, the time of the lawsuit must have been months out of her career, not to mention an expensive process. It's really saddening to see this kind of news in our field, our unions. Unions are created to protect its members but more and more it's becoming a way to exclude or manipulate people and companies. No one should be able to wield the power of excluding a company from IATSE labor if they hire a certain employee. That's truly outrageous. From this lawsuit, I hope Christa is able to regain her career track and peacefully work as she should be able to do. Additionally, I hope this lawsuit allows IATSE to revisit the checks and balances need to prevent higher ups from becoming manipulators.
