I am definitely intrigued by the possibility of going into film. I don't quite think I have the programming skills to do visual effects close to the level of Industrial Light and Magic, but I am definitely into clever cinematography and camera work. On the night of the Academy Awards, we were talking about the film equivalents of each of the design fields, and, as a person who hopes to go into lighting design, I am seriously considering the field of cinematography. I love all the films Charmaine Chan mentioned would go into her imaginary film festival for exactly the same reasons she liked them-- their cinematography. I understand that cinematography is more than just lighting for movies, that it requires a depth of knowledge of camera angles and composition theory. I am definitely a visually oriented person; when I see a movie, I pay attention most to the cinematography-- the shot composition, the angle , the lighting. I just want to be able to contribute to that.
