Lighting Plots For The 90th Academy Awards
Live Design: Lighting designers Bob Dickinson and Travis Hagenbuch lit the 90th Oscars, as the Academy Awards were broadcast live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC on Sunday, March 4, with a dazzling array of 350 assorted Philips Vari-Lite fixtures, over 225 Philips Color Kinetics LED fixtures, TMB Solaris Flares, and ARRI Sky Panels in the rig (see full gear list below), adding to the Hollywood glamour of the set designed by Derek McLane and video content by Raj Kapoor, who was also creative director for the production.

First off I cant help but notice the demographic of the men who have worked on the Oscars, I think that has to change. I seems like everyone who works on the award shows only do award shows and other big televised shows. I wonder if you really have to focus your career towards that path and that path only. It seem, by looking at some of the position and the people who are in them, they seem do only have these type of shows on their resume and that they have done these types of show for multiple years in a row. It kinda feels like a line of succession, or even a monarchy-rang over these position until they pass the torch. On another note I was very impressed with the paper work involved. It for me was a dream lighting lot, with so much flexibility he could do anything! Its always good to know what type of lights and other equipment the top designers are using on the big stages and screens.
