What did you think about the 2016 Tony Awards? Survey says . . .
The Producer's Perspective: I’m channeling my inner Richard Dawson today (or my inner Steve Harvey for those youngins out there) and revealing the results of our annual Tony Awards survey.
In case you missed it (and if you were subscribed to this blog you wouldn’t have – so take a moment and do that now), the morning after this year’s Tonys, I posted my usual recap of my Top 5 Favorite Tony Moments, and then put some questions to all of you. Did you watch? How did this year’s compare to last year’s? Et cetera, et cetera . . . as the King of Siam would say.

The Tonys were so great this year! The performances by the numerous cast were truly amazing. It was also really nice to see the diversity on Broadway and that the theater community is addressing important issues. I do agree with this article that it would have been nice to see a telecast of the design awards and their acceptance speeches. It is also very disappointing that they got rid of the sound design award. By doing this I feel like it is completely ignoring such an important part of theater that can make or break a performance. This decision on to get rid of the sound design award robs sound designers of well-deserved recognition for their art form.
I do feel that James Corden did a great job, however, no one can fill the shoes of the amazing Neil Patrick Harris, whom I personally feel should have a long term annual contract. I am also quite disappointed that they did not televise the design awards, which I believe are an essential component of Theatre, and frankly without which the nominated shows and actors could not exist. I also feel that in the same way nominated musicals have production performances, nominated plays should have video montages as done in previous years rather than having the so-called "Ham for Ham" stagedoor performances.
