Top 10 Teen Collections

There is certainly no rule that says an actor must have every trait in common with the character they are playing. That would not be acting. But age is something fairly important to consider when casting actors. In professional theater, a teen would never even be considered for a role that is out of their age range, so why are we doing it on the high school level? The shows written specifically for students to perform are often not written by accomplished playwrights, and the quality often suffers as a result. Teens are becoming increasingly more mature, but the issues they face do differ from those of adults. Shows that hit closer to home with teens will receive a more positive response from the performers and make the show much more believable to the audience. Just because a show is targeted at teen performers does not mean that the quality of the production has to change.
