These Classic Japanese Toolboxes Are Finally Available in the U.S.
Cool Material: Unless you’re a toolbox connoisseur (is that a thing?), you probably aren’t familiar with Trusco. The wildly popular Japanese toolboxes haven’t really been seen stateside. Marked by their bright blue enamel, the sturdy and affordable toolboxes will stand out among the ketchup red kits you see in every hardware store in the United States.

When looking to store your equipment, these Japanese toolboxes will probably stick out on the shelf from the classic bright red of everyday containers. But is it worth paying $120 for a simple, small, generalized one? A sturdy toolbox of the same size is around $50 on average, to serve the same purpose. The compartments in the toolbox are all the same size, and it doesn’t allow for larger materials that you might want to store. The $20 version of the toolbox looks like it won’t pop open unless you want it to, but a sturdy pencil in the same size could do you as much good, for much cheaper. Unless the Trusco is designed to last for lifetimes, it may not be worth the money. Disregarding pricing, overall the Japanese toolbox seems effectively well designed to utilize as much space as possible, and screams “functionality”.
