'Spamalot,' a musical passionate about silliness

TribLIVE: Marc Robin has been a fan of Monty Python films since he was a youngster growing up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He watched “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” so many times that he could recite large parts from memory.
“It never occurred to me that it would become a musical,” he says.

As a huge Monty Python fan, I am excited to see what can be done with the production to set it apart from the other four times that Marc Robin has directed and choreographed “Spamalot”, and am glad that Robin has a chance to work on a lighter production in contrast with his recent shows about death and oppression. But how different is this production of “Spamalot” going to be from the movie? How much of the set is going to be based off of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”? The photo of The Lady of the Lake looks almost identical to a production of Spamalot at the Fifth Avenue Theatre, save the difference in performers. The fact that this production is being brought to Downtown Pittsburgh is delightful, as it may increase morale and bring people back to the days when they themselves, like Robin, were watching their favorite Monty Python movie too many times.
