Ever since 3D printing has started to become a huge consumer market, I have wondered if and when they would begin to make prosthetics and casts for various parts of your body. I suppose it would be interesting to make things like bobbleheads and other various things out of a model of your head, but, other than for creating kitschy toys, it might not a useful tool. I see these fun little uses as only a good conversation starter, nothing more. Using this technology for something that will benefit other people is where 3D printing really has the potential to become useful. I know that when I go to the the dentist and they take a cast of my teeth they use some form of plaster, but if there was some way to use 3D printing to model your teeth, the ramifications in the dental field could be groundbreaking. 3D printing is starting to become a major player on the global stage, and I look forward to seeing what cool and intuitive things the next generation of creators dream up.
