Acumen | OZY: The secret to more productive meetings? You might simply need to stand up.
This we know, to some degree. Just take as examples the growing popularity of standing desks, which took off after a flurry of reports found that sitting for long periods of time can significantly, negatively, impact employees’ health.

This is an interesting idea but it feels impractical. As mentioned in the article, people will need to type or write things down, and people might start to get tired after standing in meetings all day. Standing might be able to work for small meetings by having everyone stand at a white board and write and/or draw ideas, but that would only work for certain topics.
If for whatever reason a meeting doesn’t require computers or notes, I feel like a walking meeting would be better than a standing meeting. Discussing ideas while walking in a reasonably pleasant place seems more appealing that all awkwardly standing in a conference room. Walking outside also would make it feel less like a serious meeting and more like a friendly discussion, which might help people suggest more creative ideas and be more receptive to the ideas of others. I agree that sitting less is a good idea, and some standing or walking meetings could be nice but, I don’t think having frequent chair-less meetings is really a realistic goal.
