Easily the coolest thing I've seen so far at Carnegie Mellon has been the 3D Printing system. experiencing such advanced tech up close and personal has been an amazing experience. However, 3D printing has been prohibitively expensive so far. the EKOCYCLE Cube 3D printer aspires to change that. Clocking in at 1,199$, this is easily one of the most consumer-friendly printers on the market. By using recycled plastics, you lose the expense of buying all he proprietary 3D printing plastics that really start to add up. Shipping with an app for your smartphone means the EKOCYCLE is a truly portable 3D printer, whipping up anything you can think of (in 6 by 6 by 6) at the tap of a screen. My personal hopes for the EKOCYCLE is that it is the thing that flings 3D printing into the public eye and pushes companies to compete for the next bigger, better, more affordable printer. A man can dream.

This 3D printer is very interesting because of the ideas and the concepts behind it. 3D printing, being a new industry, is a way for companies to experiment with the endless possibilities that are available. It is very exciting to see a product that is affordable yet allows the user to make high quality prints. I have access to several different 3D printers that range in price from $5,000 to $30,000, the main difference you get with the price is print quality, and I will be interested to see what a printer with such a lower price point will produce. The company has introduced the idea of a “green 3D printer”, this makes the product much more appealing as a result of this because of the abundance of wasted PET plastic we have in the world. If this product can do what the company claims, while eliminating waste, then you have me sold!
