Cats musical to feature rapping cat

BBC News: The hit musical Cats looks set to include a rapping feline when it returns to London's West End this year.
Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber said the character of Rum Tum Tugger would become "a street cat" in the show.
Cats, which has not been seen in London for 12 years, is based on TS Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

WHAT?!?!?!?!? At first glance this seems rediculuos. A rap in 'CATS'? However, after taking some time though to examine I am intrigued. In the Musical theatre cicuit, Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'CATS' is very well known and respected. The show is scripted from T.S. Elliot's poems and is about a bunch of cats. Seems simple but once you add intense dance numbers combined with musical compositions that can mealt your heart you have a stunning musical. So why change it. Well the article notes that in the making Webber wasnt fully satisfied with some of the pieces thus the remodel. I believe this is true but i believe that the change also comes from a need for change. Audiences now need new things dont land on us the same way. Thus renewing some of the pieces, even adding in a rap could give the show new found viatlity as it is set to return to London soon. Right now, we shall just wait and see.
