Keeping your Facebook page clean is really important when it comes to looking for job and applying to colleges. Although sometimes it can be hard to do with the power of the internet, there are a few things you can do to protect your self and promote yourself that were not mentioned in this article. This article does cover the basics however. Flooding your profile with positive things is one way to keep it mostly clean. Doing this will usually drown out the negative things that somehow made it there. If you can’t remove the negative content on your own, this is the next best option. Sometimes simply asking your friend who posted that negative picture to take it down or un-tag you will work as well. Using your page to connect with businesses can be extremely helpful as long as you are aware of what is on your page and are sure to keep it moderated.
Any teen scrolling down their facebook news feed will end up seeing some risque photo, a friend drinking, two friends making out, etc.. When future employers view these photos, they will immediately move onto the next candidate. With the lack of effort required to view photos posted on the internet, companies spend more and more time investigating your social media presence to determine if you're a worthy option for the job. A common misconception is that deleting a photo will make it permanently invisible, but in reality mountains of archival sites keep tabs on your moves and store each and every post, only to sell them to the highest bidder. All these outside factors add up to one simple truth: We must keep our profiles simple and clean if we hope to be hired. The tips in the article help to make you look more appealing, but getting rid of all your photographic skeletons in the closet is also an important step to take when applying for jobs.
