Carnegie Hall and Stagehands Settle Contract Dispute

NYTimes.com: The negotiations lasted more than a year and led to a strike that canceled Carnegie Hall’s planned opening night for the first time in the hall’s 122-year history. But after only two days, the dispute between Carnegie’s management and its stagehands was settled on Friday, and the hall announced that it was fully back in business.

It is good to hear that there was an agreement met and Carnegie Hall was able to open it's doors again. It is also great that the agreement includes benefits for both the stagehands and the education part of it. Arts education is very important and should not be left out or forgotten about, as an art students I would not want to have limited opportunities. In addition as someone who will end up working in a theater having a fair deal and good pay is also important.

It's good to hear that the dispute was settled and that Carnegie Hall is reopened and operating. I'm interested in seeing the progression of the new stagehand at Carnegie Hall and how his job will be adjusted as things move forward with the educational nature of the new wing. I am glad to see that this stagehand will not be paid at the same rate as the other 5 full time stagehands there, but I'll be interested to see if his hours and subsequent salary is soon similar to those 5. I know it's not an easy job working at Carnegie Hall but I sometimes wonder if the pay rate for stagehands is correct. The talk about mainly using the stagehand for moving heavy pieces is interesting in that I'm not sure what this will entail. Will this position be a highly paid piano mover?
