2013 Carnegie International welcomes the world

TribLIVE: If you've driven by the Carnegie Museum of Art at any time during the past week, you may have noticed the massive stack of scrap wood wrapped in brightly colored fabric billowing forth from the museum's main entrance. Like flags in a parade, the blue, magenta and orange strips of fabric herald the coming of the 2013 Carnegie International, which will open this weekend with much fanfare.

I believe the work of Carnegie International to survey, and in a sense, summarize contemporary art around the world is very purposeful. The opportunity to experience this diversity that the curators talk about from around the current world in one museum is unique. It is very interesting to see the range of abstract and realistic work that is included as well as the differing modern and classical mediums used to create this art.

oh, so that's what the mass of wood and fabric is. I was wondering. Sometimes I think it might be nice to have more explanation alongside the art. This exhibit sounds very interesting, and the performances sound particularly interesting. I wonder when the "Soccer Ball and Figure" performance is, as it sounds like it would be fun to participate in. I think more art that children can interact with is always a good idea.

I think that large festivals of the arts such as the Carnegie International are wonderful, and it's a great opportunity for people to see works or artists that they never would have heard of otherwise. It's also a great opportunity for the curators, and I'm sure that they have a ball with the International. It's so cool to see such a diverse group of art under one roof, with many different styles of art from all over the world. I'm really glad that I go to school in a city that has so much culture.
