This show seems to be getting a lot of good press. Like the article states, it is very easy to be skeptical of musicals and plays that parodies something like "Fifty Shades of Grey." However, I think that it is worth it to give shows like this a chance. I'm sure this production is hysterical and has a little bit for everyone (besides children.) The people who are involved in this production must also have a lot of guts to be involved with such a controversial piece. I am rooting for this production, and wish them success in their future tours and productions!

I don't see how this show would be a good musical...but, the novel grabbed a lot of readers and any reader would most likely go to see it. I, however, do believe that shows like this are interesting pieces of theatre and highly worth seeing. I would love to see it just to see what they have done with it. Yes - its controversial...but look at all the amazing theatre that has been surrounded with controversy! Rent and Spring Awakening, just a few, are prime examples of controversial musicals when they premiered. Who is to say "Fifty Shades" won't be successful as well?

I appreciate a good parody. The question, then, is will this parody be good? Unlike Nathan, I can see how the text could be exaggerated and warped to something humorous for the stage. Many people found original the text humorous within itself, which is why it grabbed such a wide audience. And lets face it, fewer and fewer people are finding themselves picking up a book. If it is played right, I can see this endeavor being a success. Which, of course, will be good, because I'm sure there are more than a few backers who are expecting tickets to sell. I, like Jess, wish the production success, because we could all use some more sex jokes in our lives.

This seem so unnecessary, but if the people love it and it makes money then go for it. I just don't find this to be creative in anyway. Yes in some ways you can argue it is because of the songs and blah blah blah but where is the originality in the plot? Why not create a show based on your own idea instead of just taking a book and making it into a musical? Sure it's funny to those who read the book or to those who find the book to be pointless, but there are so many show ideas or shows out there that can be so much better and put a theater to much better use.
