This is a story that I've heard several times, but I have tremendous respect for David Lee Roth himself making a video about it himself and explaining the rationale down to specific technical concerns. Particularly given the increasing complexity of shows and negligence when installing and operating them, the lesson about reading the rider is an important one, and the incident in Santa Fe proves and justifies the brown M&M clause. The flaw is that the promoter probably has different people in charge of the technical and hospitality riders, and once a clause becomes infamous it loses its usefulness...
