Veto Pro Pac Reintroduces Their Laptop Bag
Tool-Rank.com: It was a couple of years ago when I first wrote about the Veto Laptop bag, but somewhere down the road the bag was discontinued. Now Veto is back with two new versions of the laptop bag, and it looks like they made a few changes. From the outside, the bags look nearly identical to the regular Veto bags with slight changes to the handle and a now non-hook&loop shoulder strap that now uses a clip to stay in place.

I do not understand why every tool bag manufacturer out there thinks that I want a laptop slot in my tool bag. The number of times were I am doing something that requires both parts storage that these bags provide is minimal at best, and I already own a tool bag and at least one bag for carting my laptop around. Beyond that, even the bag that has extra space for tools does not look like it can hold much, and I would probably spend my time worrying about something hitting my bag and shoving some kind of sharp end into my computer.
Despite the fact that the laptop slot and tools are fairly well separated, this feels like a terrible idea. Having a computer and paperwork in the same bag as tools seems dangerous. My tool box gets dirty and dinged no matter how hard I try to avoid that. Putting a laptop in the same container with a bunch of heavy metal tools is just asking for trouble. The other reason why this doesn't seem so efficient (at least for me) is because tools and computers are often used in slightly different places and times. I carry my computer home with me every night, but I don't feel the need to be transporting tools with me all over the place. I'm sure this will be useful for some, but I can't imagine they will have a very wide consumer base.
God help me I'm about to agree with Charley. Very rarely have I ever thought that a situation needing my laptop and my drywall hammer is a good idea. Fact is, I want them to be separate because my tools and my tool bag is likely to need to take a good deal of punishment whereas I never want to put my laptop into a situation like that. And even if I inevitably find myself in that situation, I don't think I want to encourage that possibility by putting them together in one bag. Now, that's me, speaking as a carpenter; there very well may be situations where needing both at the same time is ideal. That just won't be me.
