Intiman Hopes To Reopen Next Summer

kuow.org: Intiman Theater was founded in 1972. Over the past 39 years, Intiman, the Seattle Repertory Theatre and ACT Theatre have been Seattle's three major companies. They helped establish the city's reputation as a regional theater hub.

It is GREAT to see that the Intiman is opening its doors again instead of keeping them closed for good. I know that the Seattle theatre community took quite a hit when the Intiman announced that it was prematurely closing its season last April. It also briefly prompted my parents to try to get me to study finance instead of theatre. What really pleases me about this reopening however, is the new partnership in the works with Cornish College of the Arts. In my efforts to find theatre internships in Seattle I have noticed a serious lack of any at the bigger playhouses. This is largely because every big playhouse in Seattle has a very strict contract with IATSE. Don’t get me wrong, unions are great, but sometimes unionization goes too far and actually damages the theatre community it is trying to protect.
