Search Instagram
swissmiss: I use Instagram daily on my iphone and love it. I just wish the content wasn’t as trapped. I was seriously excited when my studiomate Rusty just told me about the site called searchinstagram.com.

Oh dear.
I'm already addicted to tumblr, and now I've discovered this. I can easily imagine myself spending the next 3 hours (which I should be spending designing a knife block for Susan Tsu) watching all these artsy pictures float by. (And this after I just commented about resolving to not use the internet to procrastinate.)
I would argue that pouring over these type of hipster image-sharing websites aren't entirely procrastination. I used to download virtually every image I found online that interested me. I have a folder with about 4,400 pictures. It might have been a waste at the time, but I can see myself using any and all of those photos for inspiration or research.
But, seriously though. Why did you have to show me this? I'm wasting time on it even while I'm writing this comment.
I feel like this could be a useful tool for the very preliminary stages of research and it is definitely fun to use. Past that, I don't think it's that helpful. It is very disorganized and difficult to control. It's fascinating to look at, but for something specific it just isn't the right tool. However it is a good place to turn for inspiration. I'm not sure how much this website will change the way research is done, but I doubt it'll be much.
