The Beauty Shoppe coworking space to have open house Friday, East Liberty
Pop City: The Beauty Shoppe, a new innovative coworking space, is now open in East Liberty. Located at 6014 Penn Avenue, the Shoppe will have an open house this Friday as part of the Unblurred Gallery Crawl. Matthew Ciccone, one of the Shoppe’s creators, says his team wanted to offer an office space in the most flexible, scalable way possible, to allow startups and entrepreneurs a good experience while taking that first, often difficult step into business.

I have been loosely following the coworking movement for a long time, and think there is an interesting appeal to it. For what we do it is maybe less practical, but for many kinds of work it is a cool concept for mobility and slimmer footprint. It is paralleled in the software and small-scale world of fabrication in the hackerspace movement, but I still really want to see a commmunity shop on a large scale - like what we do. I've read a bit about a group called tech shop that has a series of reasonably well established full-scale shops, but they still don't quite have the scale that lets you do scenery sized projects. It would be really nifty to have an all-stop community-based shared shop for stuff on this scale.
