'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' Opening Night Delayed Again

WSJ.com: "The problem-plagued Broadway musical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' is delaying its opening night for the fifth time, putting off the first official performance until March 15, the show said in a statement Thursday night.
The show said it needs time to work on a new ending. The creative team, led by director Julie Taymor with music by U2's Bono and the Edge, is also working on the second act, which some theatergoers have found confusing.

This show has gone from being a show to being "Spiderman: The Accident Waiting to Happen Part _." I almost feel like the postponement is helping their press. Half of me hopes they turn this into a reasonable show but the other half of me thinks it's a lost cause and they should cut their loses.

If it's one thing they're not going to do, it's close the show, at least for a while. Even the most negative of press (see the Spidey Ward cover of the New Yorker) is still bringing in sold-out audiences, either to see what the hubbub is really all about or hoping to see an accident. So is Spider-Man increasingly have the same draws as NASCAR? Possibly. I really hope the artistic team does make something out of the show while it's still in previews. While the show still has its chin above the water and more preview time, I hope that the the production team is able to actually write an ending onto this thing and fix the problems that keep the audience from seeing a viable, finished production. Otherwise, this will go on the records with Carrie and the various vampire musicals of history as one of the most spectacular divebombs on Broadway.
