Connecticut School Official, Objecting to Racial Term, Wants to Block Wilson Play
NYTimes.com: "The schools superintendent in Waterbury, Conn., is seeking to shut down a production of one of August Wilson’s great dramas, “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” because some of the teenage actors would have to utter the word “nigger” as called for in the script, according to a report in the city’s Republican-American newspaper.

I understand the concern, but the students did not write the piece, and it fits within a historical context. Also, I would like to point out that Ms. Smith is taking all the appropriate dramaturgical steps regarding the show and it's use of no longer appropriate daily language.
