Kelly Critic review: 'Annie' at West Mifflin

Post Gazette: "These days everyone lives the hard knock life. Depression's got us down, worry keeps us up, society casts us to the side. With all this commotion, it's a wonder we're all so immobile. As each day becomes more grey and lonely, we put down our heads and fret and say: 'Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I wish you would go away!'"

I know some of the students involved with the technical side of this production and I have a feeling that they'd be a lot happier about this review than the one that recently appeared on the WPXI web site. In that review they has very little positive to say about the lighting, sound, or scenery, in fact the best that they said were that "the costumes were average and the set design is creative but sparse". Unlike the WPXI review this one is at least signed with the author's name, WPXI doesn't provide the reviewer's name so you have no idea how to adjust for their personal biases.

I think its really cool that West Mifflin High School gives their students an opportunity to design and to have those designs realized. Its also really great that they got such a good review. I was surprised at the praise that this high school production received. Having done Annie in junior high, I know that it can be done in a painful and shrill manner so I'm glad that they pulled the show off successfully.
