This is absolutely fascinating. I had no idea this was happening anywhere, let alone Pittsburgh. Giving teenagers the chance to produce their work on a somewhat professional scale outside of school is an opportunity I would have loved to have as a middle school student. My middle school and high school did not conceive a program that allowed students to write their own work, but I have always loved writing short scenes. I could never get them on their feet, but I’ve worked on 10 minute play festivals, and one-acts throughout high school, and it’s truly amazing to see what young adults can come up with. They speak loudly about the playwrights themselves, and were usually hugely surprising because they expressed a side of the person I never saw. Giving kids that kind of expression is such a gift, and I absolutely love this! Teachers, any chance you could lighten our homework loads so we could get the time to bus to south side?
