Berkeley Rep Blog: "This week has seen one thrill after another with the festive opening, at long last, of Green Day's American Idiot. The world premiere of this extraordinary rock-and-roll event was greeted with standing ovations and an incredible level of audience enthusiasm.
To share the excitement, here are a couple video peeks into the world of American Idiot."

I think the concept for this musical is really great. I like when musicals reach out to a niche, bringing them into the world of theatre. This show does that with the punks and fans of Green Day, and as they come to see the show they will be supporting the industry and hopefully they will walk away with an appreciation for theatre they didn't have before and be more inclined to attend again somewhere down the line.

You know, I am not the the die hard fan of Green Day and probably can only name one or two of there songs, so I cannot comment on their art. However, they have had a steady rock career for almost ten years and have managed to win fans in new generations so that's something to be said. Sure, once again Broadway/theatrical entertainment is doing nothing but recycling material but I cannot help but give this one a chance just because of Green Day's reputation as performing artists. Besides, after seeing 'Rock of Ages' I totally understand just how much fun karaoke musicals can be. God only know the amount of fans that will pilgrim to this show which is always good for the theatre's finances.
